Hello and welcome to my website where I aim to share some information about homeopathy and about me as a homeopath. If you are new to homeopathy then I hope that the information on these pages will give you an introduction to this wonderful system of medicine. you are then very welcome to call me to have an informal chat about how homeopathy might be of benefit to you.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy literally means ‘treating like with like’.

In Homeopathy we treat the person rather than the disease.  It is the homeopath’s ability to understand the person and prescribe a remedy to match the characteristic symptoms that can lead to healing.

Symptoms of ill health are the body’s way of saying that things are out of balance (or there is disharmony). Our bodies are incredibly good at healing themselves a lot of the time (think of how many colds you have had that got better without taking any medication). However, sometimes our bodies become challenged, the healing process gets stuck and we require some assistance.

Homeopathy is a comprehensive medical system but no claims to cure can be made, as should be the case for any medical system.

How are Homeoapthic remedies made?

Homeopathic remedies are largely made from natural substances such as plants and minerals. They are different to herbal remedies in that they are diluted and succussed (shaken) in order to create a potentised remedy.  This method of creating remedies was developed by a German doctor called Samuel Hahnemann in 1796.

Hahnemann realised, like Hippocrates had two thousand years earlier, that there are two different ways of treating ill health:  the way of opposites (most commonly used in conventional medicine) and the way of similars.

The way of similars is sometimes referred to as ‘treating like with like’ and this is how homeopathic remedies are prescribed by a homeopath. Take for example a case of angry raised spots on the body that look not dissimilar to a bee sting.  The patient might be prescribed the homeopathic remedy Apis mellifica which is made from the honey bee.

Homeopathic remedies, properly prescribed by a professional homeopath are safe and can be gien to pregnant women, babies and children [1].
